Thursday 16 February
We are awake early and I draw back the van curtains just after 6 am and see a family of kangaroos nibbling the grass nearby. There are quite a few of them around. Bucks joeys and does. The joey sticks its head in the mother’s pouch to suckle. Breakfast outside with the roos nibbling around us.
We are on the Windy Harbour road at around 8:15 and travel through cow country and jarrah and Karri forests. The drive to Walpole takes about 2 hours. The town is small and doesn’t detain us long en route to the Valley of the Giants treetop walk.
We walk the superb 40 m tall walkway (a bit like being on the Millenium bridge) which snakes its way through the majestic red tingle trees that reach 70 m in places. It’s so impressive that we do it again! We buy a red tingle chopping board from the visitor centre shop. Apparently red tingle is one of the softer hardwoods
We continue on to Denmark and after replenishing supplies make our way to the Ocean Beach camp site. We walk along the edge of the Wilson inlet to Ocean beach, a spectacular stretch of white sand. Nice for body surfing.
We plan the section of our trip North of Perth and then have sweetcorn and lasagne for supper.
