Wednesday 15 February: to Windy Harbour
Yoga and skipping by the shores of the Blackwood River before breakfast then we’re on the road. Straight and mainly empty the roads are lined with Jarrah trees and then the tall and majestic Karri trees as we enter the National Parks. We take a detour to some local wineries which are closed but the scenery is stunning. Pemberton exceeds expectations and we have a delicious flat white and cake before stocking up on local wine from the bottle shop. We visit the Gloucester Tree, a 63m tall Karri tree that you can climb on a spiral step ladder. Luckily for me it is closed for climbing! The tall trees are very calming in the dappled sunlight. The only road takes us to Windy Harbour where we find our campsite nestled in the sand dunes and see our first kangaroo and a lot of its poo! We walk along the Coastal Survivors Route to the Point D’Entrecasteaux via Cathedral Rock and Window Rock. A quick dip in the sea but quite a strong swell and I’m knocked over! Margaret River SSB (Semillon Sauvignon Blanc) by the van. Steak on the menu tonight.
